Dr. From Córdoba
HISTORY OF THE SPECIALTY
The ‘Pain Medicine’ specialty is a young and still little-known specialty. It was born thanks to Dr. John Bonica, an American anesthesiologist who participated in the Allied landings. This doctor realized that many combatants suffered pains resistant to morphine, strange pains, capricious, difficult to interpret. As a result of his work and research, our discipline sprouted: the PAIN CLINIC.
PAIN UNITS
In the Pain Units, we mainly treat CHRONIC PAIN, that is, pain that is here to stay, that will no longer disappear spontaneously unless we remedy it. Among these pains, osteomuscular pain stands out, i.e. pain that originates in the spine, joints or tendons. Neuropathic pain, linked to the central and peripheral nervous system, is also very common.
The most common techniques to combat chronic pain are infiltrations and rhizolysis. However, in recent years, REGENERATIVE MEDICINE has entered forcefully, which is based on the injection of the patient’s own cells (platelets and stem cells) where they are most needed: intervertebral discs, nerve roots, facet joints , sacroiliac joint,.. and a long et cetera.
